Facebook Ads for Contractors: Why Owner-Led Video Beats Stock Photos

The single biggest lever in contractor ads isn't the budget or the targeting. It's whose face is on the screen.

Forward Media Marketing · Oct 4, 2026

Homeowners don't hire companies. They hire people.

When a homeowner lets a contractor into their house, they're trusting a person, not a logo. That's why the ads that consistently close jobs for our clients look almost nothing like "agency" ads. No stock footage, no slick voiceover. Just the owner (or the sales rep who'll actually show up for the estimate) standing on a real job, talking straight to the camera.

Across the 200+ contractor businesses we've partnered with, owner-led video is the format we lean on first, for every trade: painting, cabinets, epoxy, remodeling, masonry and more.

"The person in the ad should be the person who knocks on the door. That's the whole trick."

Why it works

  • It pre-sells the estimate. By the time your rep arrives, the homeowner already feels like they know them.
  • It filters for fit. A real person talking about real work attracts homeowners who value quality, not just the cheapest bid.
  • It's hard to copy. Your competitor can copy a discount. They can't copy you.

The 4-part owner-led script

  1. Hook (first 3 seconds): call out the homeowner and the job. "If you're in [city] and your cabinets look like they're from 1998, watch this."
  2. Who you are: name, company, how long you've been doing it, and why you care.
  3. Proof: show the work. Before and after, the crew, the finished room.
  4. One clear next step: "Tap the button, answer three quick questions and we'll get you a quote."

Film it on your phone. Seriously.

Polished production often performs worse because it reads as an ad. Film vertically, in natural light, on an actual job site. Keep it under 60 seconds. Shoot three or four takes with different hooks, because the hook is what decides whether anyone watches the rest.

Pair it with a lead form that filters

Great creative brings volume. A good form protects your time. Ask a couple of qualifying questions (project type, timeline, ZIP code) so your team spends its energy on homeowners who are ready to move.

Judge it by signed jobs, not clicks

An ad with a cheap cost per lead that never closes is an expensive ad. Track every lead through to the signed contract so you know which creative is actually making you money. We do that for every client in Pulse, our client dashboard.
